Jeff and Eileen Sherman, parishioners since 2003, with three children that attended Prince of Peace, established the RAK scholarship. RAK started in the spring of 2015 with twelve 6th grade students. In 2016, the program was expanded to all students in grades 6-8. The scholarship honors Blaise, a former student at POP who was diagnosed in cancer in 2016.
The RAK scholarship pays $1,000 to an 8th grader who has participated in RAK in the past year and will attend a Dallas Catholic High School next year.
Students wishing to apply for the scholarship must submit a 1-2 page typed essay which answers the prompt below, which will be judged by the Sherman family.
Matthew 25:35-40 says, "For I was hungry, and you gave me food; thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me; I was naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to me. Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me. "
Please share how your RAK experience has helped you grow in faith by following the teachings of Jesus in Matthew's gospel.
