Meet Mrs. Patty Bowman! Mrs. Bowman joined the POP family in 1997. Not only is Mrs. Bowman one of our most decorated educators, boasting over 40 years in education, but also one of the most committed to her profession, consistently accruing the greatest number of professional development hours each year. Excitingly, Mrs. Bowman was a founding member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and was hired by inaugural POP principal, Mrs. Ann Kirby. Now in her 42nd year at POP, Mrs. Bowman has since worked under a total of five POP principals.
Prior to academic technology, Mrs. Bowman served as a classroom teacher. Mrs. Bowman describes her transition best: "I gifted myself my current position, Academic Technology Coordinator. I really did! My husband was more shocked than anyone. I was happily ending my 33rd year as a classroom teacher when the network administrator wished out loud that she had a teacher like me to work with her in the growing I.T. department. Work on technology with ALL the teachers and students throughout the school? With gumption and grit, I stepped forward. Pick me! (And she did). Thank you, Mrs. Tavares."
Mrs. Bowman is the proud mother of two sons and grandmother to three grandchildren. Outside of her office, Mrs. Bowman can be found spending time at the lake or somewhere with natural scenery and a breathtaking view either with family or a good book.
Why have you chosen to work in Catholic education?
My work is integrated with my faith life. In a Catholic school, I can teach the same content that I taught in public school but in a different way that reflects that I am a faith-filled person.
Favorite day of the week and why?
My favorite day of the week is Friday because I start the morning with Bible study; wear my tennis shoes as I help with technology throughout the day; and think about how I'll spend my weekend with my family.
Something that you like that nobody else does? Sardine sandwiches.
