"Parents are the primary educators." This long held principle in Catholic education is not only a philosophical assertion, it's a statement of fact. Parents are primary in two senses: They are their children's first teachers. And they are the teachers of greatest influence!
Our job at Prince of Peace is to assist parents in this fundamental vocation, to "extend the franchise of families forward," in the words of our president, Faustin Weber.
Sometimes, it's easy to fall into the notion that the school is a vendor, and parents/famiies are the customers. But that diminishes both of us! We are partners with each other. From time to time, if we disagree, we do what partners do: we sit down and work through it.
We are blessed to have active, involved parents here. You can see that in our Parent-Volunteer Organization, or our Booster Club, or on our School Advisory Council. You can see it through the great number of our parents who help coach our athletic teams. You can sense their interest and pride by parents' faithful presence at school Masses, or at performances for their kids, or at Back to School Nights.
We invite parents to jump in, to get involved, and to enjoy this wonderful time in their children's young life. These years end quickly, and we never get them back!
