The 7th grade D1 volleyball team began the postseason as the #2 seed and ended the season as #1 in their division. Having twice fallen to STA during their 8-2 season, POP Stars came back in a three-set thriller to triumph over STA for the championship title. After winning the first set, dropping the second, and beginning the third at a deficit, student-athletes rallied for a triumphant late-game comeback. To end the tie-breaking set, Abby K. served the ball for an outstanding set by Sloan S. and devastating final kill by Sydney S. With a packed cheering section full of families and fellow classmates cheering them on, the newly-minted champions stormed the court to celebrate their second straight title and sparkling new trophy.
Special thanks to our team of parent volunteer coaches including Amy Jernigan, Lauren Stewart, and Beatrice Wolf for your dedication to Star student-athletes and the POP Athletics program all season long. Thank you as well to the many fans who packed out the cheering section — your energy and support makes ALL the difference!
Once, congratulations to the 7th grade D1 volleyball team on a hard-fought DPL championship! We couldn’t be more #POPProud of student-athletes for their determination, grit, and resiliency all season long, and we can’t wait to see them go for the three-peat next season.
