FAQ's About Admissions

1. Does our family have to be Catholic to attend? No. We welcome families of all faiths who are interested in their children receiving an excellent education, informed by the gospel of Jesus Christ. 

2. Does Prince of Peace offer tuition assistance? Yes. We recognize the cost of a Catholic education is more than some families can afford, though we expect the family to pay as much as it can. We are happy to offer assistance to families who are first accepted and who qualify for it.  Information on how to apply is under the "tuition and fees" link.

3.  If it is past the deadline, can a family still apply? Yes, we have rolling admissions for classes where there is available space. Please contact our Director of Admissions for space availability if you are applying after March 1 for the upcoming year. 
 
4. What are the age requirements for CLC (preK) and kindergarten? 

• Children applying to PreK3 must turn three before September 1.
• Chidren applying to PreK4 must turn four before September 1.
• Children applying to PreK5 must turn 5 on or before December 31.
• Kindergarten students must turn 5 on or before September 1. 
• There are no exceptions to these age requirements. 

5. Do all students attend Mass? Yes, K-8 attend all-school Mass once/week. Students in the CLC attend a worship service once/week.

6. Is there a multi-child discount? Yes, if a family has more than one children enrolled at Prince of Peace, there is a discount for the second child. See under the "tuition and fees link" for more information. 

7. What are the requirements for a "parishioner" tuition rate?

• At least one of the parents must be a practicing Catholic. 
• You must be a registered, tithing member of the parish by April 1 of the year prior to enrolling. 
• If you are a returning parishioner, you must have made a minimum contribution of $1,000 to the general fund of Prince of Peace Catholic Church (not the school) by December 31 of the previous year. 
• If you are a new parent, you must make a minimum $1,000 tithe to the Church prior to being classified as a parishioner, or you must commit to recurring monthly payments through the parish "Touchpoint" digital payments, beginning April 1, to  equal a sum of at least $1,000 by December 31.  Note: Charitable gifts to the school's Annual Fund or Gala don't "count" toward this $1,000 donation to the Church.

 8. Is Prince of Peace accredited? Yes, by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops' Education Department, together with all Catholic schools in Texas. 

9. Are students required to wear a uniform? Yes, all students in PreK-8 wear a school uniform. Our provider is Tommy Hilfiger. 

10. What are the admissions "criteria"? What is the school looking for in a candidate? 

There is no single criteria. We seek to determine if a child can  successfully complete the work required at his or her age level. Past grades, test performance, recommendations from teachers and admissions interviews all contribute to the applicant's profile. As a Catholic school, we are not a "selective admissions" school--we accept students with a range of abilities--but we are not an "open admissions" school either. Realistically, families should understand there is more scrutiny for transfers coming into the school in the upper grades than if they apply in the lower grades, as upper school transfers are "inserted" into the middle of a Math curriculum (for example) and must have the prerequisite skills to succeed. 

11.  So my child has applied. What happens next?  

If a family applies by the first registration deadline in early February, an admissions decision will be made in mid-March. There are three possible outcomes:  the student will be told he or she is accepted, or declined, or given "deferred admissions" status.  If  "deferred admissions,"   it means we believe the child has met all the requirements to succeed, but there are no available openings, so we must wait to see if the students who were accepted choose to enroll and what additional openings may arise. If there are openings, we go to the list of deferred admissions candidates in early April and choose the strongest candidates for those remaining spots. 

After this process is completed, usually by mid-April,   the school will take applications for remaining openings on a rolling basis.
