“Middle school students [at POP] are on a mission to spread kindness." In celebration of Catholic Schools Week 2024, POP was featured in the special CSW edition of the Texas Catholic! Check out the special insert for journalist Amy White’s coverage of our Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) program. RAK is a parent-led service organization that provides students in grades 6-8 with the opportunity to team up and make a difference in the POP community and beyond. Through RAK, nearly 150 POP students are empowered to live out Catholic social teachings through service to their neighbors whilst cultivating both teamwork and leadership skills.
Be sure to look for a few familiar names and faces! On page 4B, you’ll find one sixth grade RAK group performing their December RAK project by laying wreaths on fallen heroes’ graves at the DFW National Cemetery, which was particularly meaningful as they had the opportunity to pay their respects to group members Case O. and Aidan B.’s grandfathers (middle and right). In the write-up, seventh grade RAK member Patrick A. (left) and parent volunteer-extraordinaire Mrs. Lindsey Thompson share their experience partnering with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to host a Christmas party, complete with gifts and a sundae bar, for a family in need. We couldn’t be more #POPProud of all of our RAK students’ kind hearts and abundant compassion!
Special thanks to founding RAK parent Mrs. Eileen Sherman, original RAK member Mary Beth Walsh, and Christian Service Coordinator Mrs. Tamara Bayo for so sincerely and succinctly sharing about RAK’s mission and the program’s evolution over the past 10 years!
